Bonus Challenge: The Waldy TT returns!

Updated: Aug 1

We missed our official Time Trial back in May, so we're bringing it back this September as a bonus challenge, on top of the month's main challenge.

Extra points up for grabs, extra ways to get involved.

đź“… 3rd and 10th September, 18:30 start. Arrive by 18:10 to sign on and get checked over.

It's free for Waldy members. We cover your entry fee.

Sign up here please:

How to score:

📍 Turn up and finish = 1pt

⚡ 25 kmph (men) / 22 kmph (women) = 2pts (totally achievable by most)

⚡ 31 kmph (men) / 28 kmph (women) = 3pts

⚡ 35 kmph (men) / 31 kmph (women) = 4pts

🏆 Fastest man and fastest woman = +1 bonus point

Max from racing: 5 points.

Fancy volunteering instead? Here's what's needed:

🫳 Are you good at holding onto things, then letting go of them at exactly the right moment? Congratulations, you're our Launcher.

🚦 Can you stand in a hi-vis jacket and point? We need 4-5 of you for the Corner Crew. No prior pointing experience required.

🧠 Can you operate a stopwatch and hold a pen at the same time? You're the Brains. This is a big ask, we know.

All volunteer roles earn 2 points, as a bonus point on top of your race score. No cap. Race on the 3rd and volunteer on the 10th? That's up to 7 points stacked on top of your main September Challenge score.

Don't fancy riding at all? Just volunteer and bank 2 points for turning up and helping out. No bike required.

Not sure you can hit 25/22 kmph? You probably can.

This isn't a Sunday ride average. The course is rolling rather than flat, with 186 metres of climbing over the 16.1km out and back, but the ups and downs roughly cancel out, with an average gradient of 0%. It's a short, concentrated effort, done and dusted in around 30 minutes, with no junctions, regroups, or café stops to drag your average down. If you're comfortably averaging 23 kmph on a normal club ride, holding that pace for a focused half hour is well within reach, even with a few honest rises along the way.

What you'll need:

  • A helmet, compulsory, no exceptions

  • A working white front light and red rear light, fitted to your bike (CTT rule, not optional. No lights, no start. Get in touch beforehand if you need help sorting this)

  • Any bike in safe condition, from a full TT rig to your everyday road bike

Riders must be 12 or over. Under 18s need a parental consent form, available on entry or on the day.

These points are on top of your main September Challenge score. Two dates, two ways to score.

If you take part in this organised event I’ll pick you speeds up from the timing sheets.

Also don’t forget to claim your bonus points for things like 1st Sportive or beating your time trail PB. Bonus points claimed are on an honesty basis and input into the google spreadsheet via the website. Navigate to the Waldy Challenge page and in the middle right of the page, press add bonuses; you will then be taken to the google sheet.

Get in touch with your challenge masters Luke Phillips or Richard Trestain if you need help entering your scores or want to query any levels.
