Meet The Riders: Neermal

How did you get into cycling?

My partner Steph is a lycra warrior and sold it to me based on being out in the countryside, and I'm now on my 3rd bike (which I put together), have been collected off a Welsh mountain in an ambulance! And own more lycra than I ever thought was possible (who knew knee warmers were a thing?) basically I’m hooked. As for Steph, she got pregnant with twins which is when I joined the Waldys.

What’s your favourite place to cycle?

I recently cycled around the Isle of Wight with the Waldys which was something I’d always wanted to do and it didn’t disappoint. It was a challenging route but worth it for the quiet roads and the scenery and of course the company and coffee stops.

Have you got any cycling goals this year?

My main goal is to improve my climbing skills and I’m using Box Hill as a measure for this. One of the Waldys is a British Cycling coach and has been helping me with a training plan and two sessions in, I’m already feeling more confident and efficient on my bike.

What’s your go to ride with the Waldy Wheelers?

I like the 100k ride to Henley, it’s challenging with some fast sections and no hills! Also great options for coffee and cake at Cinnamon Cafe (Windsor) or Velolife (Maidenhead).

What would you say to someone thinking of joining the Waldy Wheelers?

It’s a fantastic club with the most friendly and welcoming members. It’s been a year since I signed up and I’ve achieved so many firsts that I would never have done alone. The support and encouragement of all the members is what makes it such a great club, that and the bright pink kit!

What do you do when you’re not cycling?

I’m a yoga teacher (more Waldys should come to my class) and we have 7 month old twins so our hands are quite full !
