From Richard:
“On Saturday March 19th, I rode an epic 75-mile tour of 14 London hospitals in support of the Kingston Hospital Charity's #Ridefor75 fundraising initiative, to mark the NHS' upcoming 75th anniversary in July this year.
Even though the rain tried to dampen my spirit when my maps app on my mobile stopped working because it got wet, I was undeterred and although I was riding my Brompton with only one gear working, making it feel like I was on a single-speed bike, it all just added to the adventure!
I used my knowledge of central London to make it to Guys and St Thomas’s, Barts, The Royal Free, and the Whittington Hospitals. Who needs map apps!
I tackled some challenging hills along the way, including a long climb up from Hampstead Heath to Parliament Hill and on to Jack’s Straw Castle pub.
The average speed was dictated by traffic from central London to the Southwest, which was gridlocked.
The map app mishap meant I missed a visit to the Royal London so I visited alternative hospitals instead close to home to make up the 75-mile distance.
Despite the couple of obstacles I encountered, I am proud to have created this challenge for myself and to have contributed to such an important cause.”
